
Fashina Shakiru, a Lagos-based traffic Reporter was assaulted by OP-MESA at Mile 2 bus stop, Lagos/Badagry expressway today.
Fashina was brutalised by one of the soldiers, OP-MESA on a patrol around 8:56am as he was going about his lawful duty which is to cover the state of traffic around Apapa/Oshodi express road before his phone was seized.
The security operatives also threatened to shoot the journalist if he argued with them.

They assumed that the journalist was ‘covering’ their patrol movement, as one of them slapped him and hit him with a rod on the head which caused serious injury on his head.
Responding to this, the Journalist maintained that “he is a Traffic Reporter, while showing his Identification card before one of the officers could cautioned others.

He was eventually released and his phone given to him after they checked the phone’s gallery and noticed that the Journalist didn’t have video of their operation on patrol.
